How to create Instagram-ready packaging!

Internet influencers love precious packaging, so where do you find both? Instagram. Instagram is a hub for products and sharing beautiful, well-designed items as well as the gorgeous packaging it came in.

Influencers have used luxury packaging in their backdrops for years and more recently have interacted with boxes in unboxing videos. With the rise of online sleuths, simply getting your box into the background of an influencer’s image can be life-changing for brands.

Instagram is an increasingly important medium for businesses, especially e-commerce. Brands should understand the importance of the medium and follow Instagram-related trends in keeping with their sector.

Reels

Instagram Reels are videos that can last up to 90 seconds – a bit like TikTok – and they include a variety of editing tools. Reels are not the same as Instagram Stories. They do not vanish after 24 hours, unlike Stories. If you post a Reel, it will remain on Instagram until you delete it.

Packaging a product for delivery is a perfect topic for a reel. You can show how your products are carefully packaged with love! This is very similar to an unboxing but in reverse, like a brand’s version of an unboxing video!

Going ‘Live’

It can be intimidating to go live for the first time. Let your audience know you’ll be broadcasting ahead of time by stating the date and time you intend to go live with a promotion or answering questions.

Instagram Live is successful when you can interact and engage with your audience. You could use this time to ask questions about what type of packaging you can use, or like Reels, create a boxing or unboxing video.

Minimalism.

If you’re a small business and you don’t want to keep redesigning your packaging, simple packaging is chic and will never go out of fashion. You can almost picture the luxury brands famous for this – just make sure you have a logo which can be used against black or white designs flawlessly.

Colour palettes

Colours come in and out of fashion, and whilst pastels have dominated over the past few years, companies are moving to more bold colours or opting for simple eco-friendly recycled materials.

Whilst choosing popular colours for your promotional packaging and when developing your branding, try to choose a colour palette to stick to. This will make your brand recognisable on social media and within stores!

Be cheeky and fun!

As much as many influencers take Instagram super seriously, the app itself was designed to be fun and playful. Using tongue-in-cheek language and keeping up to date with trends can charm consumers, just like brand PrettyLittleThing seen doing here:

Ways to engage your customers have also developed since the invention of the hashtag. You can now connect using unique Instagram filters, polls, and competitions. Keep it light, bright, and fun!

Functionality is key!

Realistically in 2022, your products and packaging should be leaning towards being sustainable, functional, and Instagram-friendly. Versatility is key in these times due to changing demands from consumers and with the unpredictability of the economic crisis, it is essential to have a product which works across all mediums.
